Sources said, as a caution against the risk of price rise, the exports have been limited to five lakh tonnes, although the country is estimated to have an exportable surplus of 1.5 million tonnes in the 2010-11 sugar season (October-September).

According to Kenya Sugar Board (KSB), sugar consumption increased from 630,000 tonnes in 2001 to 772,731 tonnes in 2010. Sugar production had also significantly shot up from 377,438 tonnes in 2001 to 523,652 last year.

Thai Sugar Production up 710,000 tons on last year, nearly all raws.
Sugar Production in Thailand is up 710,000 mts on last year basis figures for the 17 Mar published by the Thai Sugar Millers.
